Stand-Up Paddle Boards
(SUP's)

Get out on the water paddle boarding!

The Stand Up Paddle Boards are stored at Condurro Campsite and can be used there on the safe and secluded creek of the Tresillian River. We provide everything you need to get out on the water with the Stand Up Paddle Boards, including our instructors.

There are 12 O' Shea inflatable paddleboards. (4 X 10'6" and 8 10'2") all with adjustable paddles, leash and quick release waist belts. There are 2 manual pumps and 2 electric pumps, for inflating the paddle boards.

The paddle boards are portable, so if you would like to use the paddle boards away from Condurro you can, but it has to be on any very sheltered water.

Here are a few suggestions of suitable places around the County:

Bude Canal

Saltash (on the River Tamar)

Millendreath Beach.

Looe River/Hannafore Beach.

Lostwithel on the River Fowey.

Polkerris Beach

Par Beach

Porthpean Beach

There are lots of other places around the county. If there is one near you that you would like to use, please message our County Water Adviser, who would be happy to help you.

If you are not using the Paddle boards at Condurro, it is recommended that if you can be flexible on your exact location at time of booking, you are more likely for your session to go ahead. Weather conditions need to be calm, with very little wind (below 10mph) or strong current or tide. As weather conditions can change, it helps if you can also change location last minute.

There are 10 spaces available per session. If a large group of 20 is participating, the session can be divided can be divided up into 2 groups with a maximum of 10 in a session.

At Condurro, there is a maximum of 20 participants. 10 per session, in two, back-to-back, 45-minute sessions either side of the high tide.

The paddle boards and kayaks can be taken out at the same time or your session can be divided up into one session of kayaking and one session of paddle boarding. More information about the hire of the kayaks can be found here.

Pricing

Stand-Up Paddle Board Hire

£5 Girlguiding members
£7  Non-members

You will be invoiced for Paddle boarding once your session has taken place. A session is an hour long.

Who is able to join in?

The rules from Girlguiding on being able to swim 50m have recently changed. This will also apply for non- member groups. For many activities around or on water, confidence in the water is more important than the ability to swim a particular distance. If anyone is need to be assisted back onto a craft by the instructor, they should have the confidence to remain in the water until rescued.

Please check the swimming ability and confidence in water, and highlight those with weak swimming abilities or low water confidence to the instructor. Where weak swimmers or those with low water confidence are taking part, this should be risk assessed and ratios may need to be amended. You can get good swimmers who have low water confidence if the environment in which they are swimming is different from usual. The Health and Safety Risk Assessment can be downloaded to read here:

Health and Safety Risk Assessment

The ratio for paddle boarding is 1:8. and at least 2 adults are needed. There will be 2 instructors in the water. Adults can go out with the group; just make sure they are included in the numbers and that there is an adult supervising anyone on land waiting their turn.

Instructor

An instructor will be arranged for you by the Booking Adviser. Under no circumstances are the SUP's to be on the water without our qualified instructors.

Please be prepared to brief the instructor on any health issues before entering the water.

On the day

If paddle boarding at Condurro, the creek is deep enough to use for an hour either side of high tide. So session times will be fixed to accommodate this.

You will need to be on site at least 30 minutes before the start of your session to help inflate the boards.

Buoyancy aids are provided and can be found in the Kayak Store. The key for this is in the Condo room. You will need to know the door code to enter, which should have been provided. (Your instructor should be able to access this if in doubt.)

A swimsuit, wetsuit, spray top and wet shoes are ideal. Alternatively, tracksuit bottoms, a synthetic fleece top and an old cagoule are very suitable. Shoes should be old and capable of being well secured to the foot and will get muddy. Clothes which are made from natural materials are heavy when wet e.g. wool and should be avoided. A plastic bag for wet and muddy clothes afterwards is recommended!

There are glasses retainers, and waterproof phone cases available to borrow. Ensure the cases are fully closed, as no responsibility for damage to phones can be taken. Likewise, ensure glasses are retained securely, as no responsibility can be taken for lost glasses.

All participants must be able to carry their board and paddle down to the waters edge.

When you have finished paddle boarding

If using Condurro all paddle boards and equipment must be taken back to the campsite by the participants and rinsed well with fresh water using the hose to remove all the mud and salt water. They then need to be deflated and put away.

Buoyancy aids are to be rinsed and left free from mud. Please zip and clip these, then place them back onto the hangers and hang on the rope provided in the Kayaking Store to dry. Paddles are also to be rinsed and returned.

If using the paddle boards off site your instructor will advise you what is required when you have finished.

Happy and safe paddling!
