September Check List

Updated: Aug 14, 2021

Face to face meetings

At this point, you must have a risk assessment for indoor or outdoor meetings, signed off by your District or Division commissioner. Girlguiding are expecting to be able to update these requirements in September and it's worth keeping an eye on the Covid pages of the Girlguiding website for the current requirements.

Keep an eye on the county website for more risk assessment training opportunities. The next one is a Commissioners session on 4th October 2021.

Here's a quick reference guide to what you need for the different types of meeting:

Safeguarding

Leaders will need to renew EACH levels when it is due - you can see expiry dates on your personal Go record.

  • Level 1 and 2 needs to be done online. This will be offered virtually at county level too.

  • Level 3 at present we are will awaiting confirmation on how HQ is going to deliver this training.

  • Level 4 needs to be done via the Region website and completing the virtual training

First Response

All courses are now 6 hours long and e-learning module must be complete. (There is no refresher or full course any more!) 1st Response is Girlguiding's own first aid course and MUST be renewed every 3 years.

The e-learning can be completed before or after the full training course, and must be completed in order to be recognised as a first aider in Girlguiding.

Should you have any questions or queries regarding first response please contact our training team on firstresponse@girlguidingcornwall.org.uk.

If you want to know whether your first aid course from work, or another organisation, is transferrable to Girlguiding, please read the information here before emailing. If it is, you will still need to complete the e-learning as this covers the policies and procedures specific to Girlguiding.

You can find the dates for Cornwall Trainings F2f and Zoom, and book in via the county website.

The Programme

It's been a while since a lot of us used our Programme resources and planned a term! Don't forget about the amended UMA and Skills Builder requirements for theme awards, which are in place until July 2022! Also, Girlguiding has produced some suggested meeting plans for indoor, outdoor and online meetings, as well as some ideas for adapting activities for social distancing or online meetings.

And remember...it's absolutely ok to do things that don't count towards a Theme Award! The Programme activities are a part of what we do, but not all we do! We should absolutely be using the Programme resources to help our girls earn Skills Builders, Theme Awards and Section Awards, but the rest of the time is all about what makes your unit unique...and it doesn't all have to count towards a badge!

Don't forget to let us know what you've been up to! Tag the county in your social media posts, or email your photos/articles to us so we can share them on ours - help us recruit girls and leaders to our fantastic organisation by shouting about what you do!
